I was able to spend a great deal of time over the weekend on this piece and I’m just about done. Just a few additional highlights and shadows and it will be complete. The next post will be the finish painting. Have a great day!

Now that the holidays are over, time to get this painting done.

6) Butterflies completed, first layer of tone.

7) Tone just about done, 3rd layer of the hair.

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday season. I spent the past few weeks in California vacationing and taking in some amazing art. As a professional “people watcher” it’s only natural that I enjoy painting portraits. John Singer Sargent is by far my favorite of this genre and for practice I used one of his pieces as inspiration. I couldn’t take a wet painting on a plane, so I will finish it in a month or so. Have a great 2012 more to come!

I made a bit of progress over the weekend, but not as much as I anticipated.

5) Started on the landscape — still many hours left.
